LOA 20.00 meter, LVL 17.50 meter, Beam 4.35 meter, Draft 2.85 meter. BRT 19.53, BRT 16.50, Displacement approx 45 tons, 17 ton lead keel
Designed by O. W. Dalström and build by Knud Jensen, Roskilde, Denmark in 1951. K. Jensen was also a builder for the late Danish king "Christian X"

Engine 115 HP 6-cyl diesel, 115 HP. Hull of larch on oak frames under the waterline. Mahogany above the waterline. Superstructure and accomodation
is selected teak all over. Danish register. More detailed specs at the bottom of the site.

"Akela" is unique in its construction, as the first owner, Mr. Boegelund-Jensen an important industry leader insisted on using selected quality
products in the building of the yacht.
The interior has been kept in the same style everywhere so the photos of e.g. the main guest cabin will give you a pretty good idea. 
During the restoration works in 2004-2005 there has been a lot of focus on preserving all the fine wooden details so most of the
electronic equipment is now hidden behind panels.  All electrical wiring is totally replaced with new wires/circuitry.

Welcome aboard

This is the layout of "Akela" - not to scale. But it will give you a pretty good reference when you study the pictures-

Salon
The salon has white leather sofaes, a large table, and a skylight window array. 
The mini bar and the modern stereo system are located in the side panels.
The ship has a stand-alone oil heater, that will keep the cabins warm even in the winter.  
For fast heating an extra electrical heater (fan) is built into the panel in the saloon.
The sofaes in the saloon can be turned into extra beds for guests.















 

Extra guest cabin
The extra guest cabin in bb side has one bed. A modern washing machine is installed here.

Bath room
The bath room has a bath tub with shower (warm and cold water), and a modern ship toilet - electrically controlled through push
buttons. The tumble dryer is built into the panel.  An extra heater (fan) is also built into the panel.

Pantry/kitchen
The pantry is fully equipped with refrigerator, spacious freezer, mixed oven and microwave oven, stove etc.
Located fore of the main salon in the starboard side of the ship.

The crew Cabin
Located in front of the ship. The ships crew wanted it this way. Direct acces to the deck.




The "dog house"
Located aft of the master cabin.  All the electronic/electrical equiplement can be controlled from here. 
The ship's radio is placed here too, and the handset is easily reached from the deck. 
The ship is equipped with a state-of-the-art GPS map and guidance system mounted next to the wheel. Photo to follow.

"Akela" has ample supply of fresh water as four large storage tanks (1000 LITERS) are installed below the bathroom and the saloon. 
There is a accumulator and an electronic sensor for water pressure so that an electric pump automatically maintains the water pressure.  
Thus, the water taps in the bathroom and the kitchen work just as in land based bathrooms and kitchens.
There is also a "grey water" tank (closed; there is never any smell) so that there is no problem using the kitchen and bathroom sinks while staying in
ports with environmental restrictions concerning sewage disposal.  Disposal of grey water is handled by flipping an electric switch in the card house.
